Coast Guard Foundation Announces Inaugural Houston Awards Dinner

May 13 Event to Honor Coast Guard Heroics and Mission Excellence

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of Coast Guard members and their families, announced that it will host a tribute to the United States Coast Guard in Houston on Friday, May 13, 2016 at The Houstonian Hotel. ADM Paul F. Zukunft, Commandant of the Coast Guard and former Governor Rick Perry are scheduled to attend and share remarks. During the event, the Coast Guard Foundation will present an award to a Houston-based Coast Guard unit for heroics and mission excellence. The Foundation will also present its Guardian Award to ExxonMobil. Accepting the award will be Rex W. Tillerson, chairman and CEO of ExxonMobil.

“It is an honor to have such a distinguished list of guests attending this year’s tribute in Houston,” said Anne Brengle, president of the Coast Guard Foundation. “Our work supporting the brave men and women of the Coast Guard is only possible through the assistance and generosity of companies like ExxonMobil. We are thankful for their outstanding contribution to our efforts to improve the quality of these individuals’ lives.”

The Coast Guard Foundation’s Guardian Award recognizes individuals, companies and organizations who have provided significant support and have demonstrated exemplary commitment to the Coast Guard Foundation.

For more than 30 years, ExxonMobil has been one of the leading supporters of the Foundation’s most important strategic initiatives. ExxonMobil has also been integral in funding programs that promote and encourage diversity, STEM programming, and margin of excellence programs at the Coast Guard Academy, as well as the Foundation’s Disaster Relief and Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund. This program is critical for the Foundation to provide support to families who have lost a loved one in the line of duty, and to make sure their children attend college and graduate debt free.
