Anchored to the
Magnificent Chesapeake Bay
Artwork by Wesley Carter
Creativity was a language my family spoke fluently. My
grandfather and mother were both amazing artists, and now my sister, niece and son,
Kent Krebeck, are also all accomplished artists. I was always encouraged to try
new mediums, to experiment and above all to enjoy the creative process.
My father was a Naval Academy graduate, aeronautical engineer and a brilliant
inventor. He grew up in Annapolis on the Severn River and loved everything
about the Chesapeake Bay and made sure it was an integral part of our lives.
Every family get-together revolved around the bay and crab
feasts. Many days were spent floating on the rivers, sailing and racing on the
Bay. Countless hours were devoted to crabbing, watching a crab shed, and
helping with oyster reforestation, which became the foundation for my love of
the Chesapeake Bay and all of its wildlife. It has always provided a rich
source of inspiration for my art.
As a young mother, I was fortunate to raise my son on these
same magical shores for more than twenty-four years. It truly is a special
place and I am grateful to have been able to pass along my love for the
Chesapeake Bay to him.
Living in Charleston, SC for the last four years has also
provided amazing inspiration for my art. The changing colors of the low country
marshes are simply stunning. The extreme tide changes here remind me how life
can change as quickly as the tides.
Nevertheless, like the pull of the tide, the Chesapeake Bay
will always draw me back to cherished memories and a place I was fortunate to
call home. For more information about the art or to order a print,
